For Immediate Release: February 28, 2020

Contact: Nancy Jackson (213) 978-1960

The Ethics Commission announced today that the fundraising window for Citywide candidates in the regular 2022 primary election will open on Sunday, March 8, 2020.  The primary election is scheduled to take place on March 8, 2022.

Individuals who are interested in becoming candidates for Mayor, City Attorney, or City Controller in the 2022 elections may not solicit or receive campaign contributions until they have filed required paperwork with the Ethics Commission.  Candidates who wish to file on March 8 may do so by emailing all required paperwork to ethics.cefs@lacity.org and providing the originals in person or by postal mail.

City law imposes per-person campaign contribution limits on candidates.  For the regular 2022 elections, a candidate for a Citywide office may not solicit or accept more than $1,500 from a single person in a single election.

City law specifies a primary election fundraising window of 24 months for Citywide races and 18 months for City Council and Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education (LAUSD) races.  The fundraising window for City Council and LAUSD candidates in the regular 2022 primary election will open on September 8, 2020.

For questions regarding the fundraising windows, contribution limits, or other campaign finance laws, please contact the Ethics Commission.

The Ethics Commission was created by Los Angeles voters in 1990 to impartially administer and enforce the City’s governmental ethics, campaign financing, and lobbying laws.
