EXPENDITURE CEILING LIFTED IN CD 6 SPECIAL ELECTION

For Immediate Release: April 3, 2023
Contact: Nancy Jackson (213) 978-1960

The expenditure ceiling has been lifted in the 2023 special primary election for Council District (CD) 6. The primary election will be held tomorrow, April 4.

City law limits the total amount of expenditures that may be made by candidates who participate in the City’s matching funds program. The expenditure ceiling in a particular race is lifted and no longer applies when a non-participating candidate in that race exceeds the expenditure ceiling or when independent expenditures in that race exceed a certain threshold.

For the CD 6 primary election, the expenditure ceiling is $618,000, and the independent expenditure threshold is $99,000. The expenditure ceiling has been lifted in the CD 6 race, because independent expenditures have exceeded the threshold.

Additional information about candidate fundraising and spending in the 2022 elections, including disclosure reports and campaign communications, is available on the Election Totals page. Campaign activity and political communications may also be searched on the Public Data Portal.
