CAMPAIGN FINANCE DATA FOR THE 2017 GENERAL ELECTIONS

The upcoming general elections for the City and for the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education (LAUSD) will be held on May 16, 2017. On the ballot are the races for City Council Districts 1 and 7 and LAUSD Districts 4 and 6.

The candidates in those races were required to file their second pre-election disclosure statements by Thursday, May 4, to report their campaign activity through April 29. According to those filings, the candidates in the City Council races have raised a total of nearly $675,640, and the candidates in the LAUSD races have raised nearly $559,362.

Candidate spending has reached approximately $623,585 in the City Council races and approximately $332,743 in the LAUSD races. Independent spending to support or oppose a candidate in the
general elections has reached over $557,084 in the City Council races and nearly $4,518,599 in the LAUSD races. General election totals for each seat are listed in the following table:

City and state laws require candidates and others who participate in City and LAUSD elections to regularly disclose their activities, including providing the public with information about their contributions and expenditures. Filing deadlines are set by law, and the information that is filed electronically is publicly accessible immediately upon filing through the campaign finance page of the Ethics Commission’s website (ethics.lacity.org/campaignfinance.cfm).
