The Ethics Commission announces that the fundraising window for the regular 2024 City Council (City) and Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education (LAUSD) primary elections opens today.

The primary election will be held on March 5, 2024, and if a general election is necessary, it will be held on November 5. The open seats for the 2024 elections are the even-numbered City districts and the odd-numbered LAUSD districts.

Individuals who are interested in running for office in the 2024 elections may not solicit or receive campaign contributions until they have filed required paperwork with the Ethics Commission. Candidates who wish to file may do so by contacting the Ethics Commission for guidance, emailing all required paperwork to ethics.cefs@lacity.org, and providing the originals by postal mail.

City and LAUSD candidates are subject to a variety of campaign finance laws, including campaign contribution limits. For the regular 2024 elections, the per-person limit is $900 per election for City Council candidates and $1,300 per election for LAUSD candidates.

For questions regarding the fundraising windows, contribution limits, or other campaign finance laws, please contact the Ethics Commission.
