2020 LAUSD Elections and Fundraising Window

Bulletin No. L2020-1

Published: August 28, 2018

In 2020, the four odd-numbered districts of the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education (LAUSD) will be up for election. On November 6, 2018, LAUSD voters will have the opportunity to decide whether the 2020 primary election should be held on March 3 or June 2. The general election, if necessary, will be held on November 3.

If the voters approve the ballot measure to move the primary election to March 3, the fundraising window for the 2020 primary election will open as soon as the City Clerk certifies the election results. If the ballot measure is not approved, the fundraising window will open on Monday, December 3, 2018.

Individuals who are interested in running for an LAUSD seat may not solicit or receive campaign contributions until the fundraising window opens and they have filed required paperwork with the Ethics Commission.  In addition, campaign contributions are limited.  For the 2020 elections, an LAUSD candidate may not solicit or accept more than $1,200 per election from a single person.

For questions about the special elections, the fundraising window, or the contribution limits, please contact the Ethics Commission.
