Candidate Update No. 1
Candidate Filing Week
Candidate Filing Week for the 2020 regular elections will be held:
November 4 through noon on November 9, 2019
During Candidate Filing Week, you are required to file several forms with the City Clerk’s Election Division and the Ethics Commission. For your convenience, Ethics Commission staff will be housed at the City Clerk’s office during this week. Below is a summary of the required forms.
File with City Clerk Election Division
You must file a “Declaration of Intention to Become a Candidate” with the City Clerk’s Election Division. Nominating petitions, which you must use to qualify to have your name appear on the ballot, will not be issued to you unless this form is properly filed.
File with Ethics Commission
You must also file three forms with the Ethics Commission:
- Form 20 (Statement of Acceptance or Rejection of Matching Funds), unless already filed.>
- Form 700 (Statement of Economic Interests. State law requires you to file this form to report investments, interests in real property, and business positions that you hold on the date you file your declaration of candidacy. You are also required to report income (including loans, gifts, and travel payments) that you received during the 12 months prior to the date you file your declaration of candidacy. We encourage you to look over the form before Candidate Filing Week, because you may need to provide detailed information about your financial interests. The City Clerk will not issue nominating petitions to you until you file the form. For advice on filling out the form, you may contact the FPPC by phone at 1 (866) ASK-FPPC or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
All of the forms you file during Candidate Filing Week are public documents.
