Lobbying Ordinance Review
March 9th, 2007 Interested Persons Meeting

The staff of the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission will be holding an interested persons meeting on March 9, 2007, to gather input from the public about the City’s lobbying ordinance.

The Commission will be reviewing the entire lobbying ordinance this year, in an effort to ensure that the City’s lobbying laws are as strong and effective as possible. This is the first time the ordinance has been comprehensively reviewed since the early 1990s, and a key part of the review process is understanding the public’s perspectives regarding provisions of the ordinance that could be clarified or improved.

Some of the topics about which the Commission staff seeks particular input include quarterly reporting requirements, electronic filings, fundraising, and fundraising-related disclosure requirements. However, those topics may be just the beginning of the conversation. We encourage you to attend this Friday’s meeting and provide your comments and suggestions about how to improve the lobbying ordinance.

If you are unable to attend the meeting on March 9, a second meeting will be held on April 5. Also, you are always welcome to provide input via email. Simply visit the Commission’s Web site at http://ethics.lacity.org and click on "join the discussion on the lobbying ordinance".

This Friday’s meeting will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Room 1035 of City Hall, which is located at 200 North Spring Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012.
