Melinda J. Murray (October 2015 - Present)
Melinda Murray was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Murray pursued her Juris Doctor Degree at U.C.L.A. School of Law where she was elected Vice-President of the Student Bar Association.
Murray is currently a Deputy District Attorney of Los Angeles County. She has dedicated her career at the District Attorney's Office to protecting the victims of Child Abuse, Domestic Violence and Sex Crimes. She was assigned to the elite Sex Crimes Division where she specialized in prosecuting Drug Assisted Rapes and the presentation of DNA and forensic evidence in serial rape cases. She has also been assigned to the Compton Branch Office, the Airport Branch Office and the Bureau of Fraud and Corruption. Currently Murray is assigned to the Parole Division where she prosecutes parolees who are Registered Sex Offenders and gang members.
Murray was the President of the John M. Langston Bar Association of Los Angeles in 2013. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the California Association of Black Laywers and is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the National Bar Association.
Murray was appointed by City Council President Herb Wesson to complete a five-year term that will end June 30, 2017.
