The City Ethics Commission's enforcement division investigates and brings enforcement actions against individuals and entities who violate the City's ethics, campaign finance or lobbying provisions. Many of its cases begin as complaints to the Whistleblower Hotline. The division also refers to and works with other government agencies when appropriate.
Reporting Violations To report a violation, call our Whistleblower Hotline at 213-978-1999 (toll free at 1-800-824-4825) or submit a complaint online.
If the Commission finds that the law was violated, it has the authority to levy penalties against the violator of up to $5,000 per violation or three times the amount unlawfully contributed, accepted, or not disclosed, depending on the nature of the violation.
